Hey! What About Job's Wife?

Yesterday the power was out for a few hours due to a small fire. I decided to crack open the spine of my Bible again and started reading. I picked up with Job and read for 45 minutes.... I got to thinking about Job's wife ... Wow. I don't know about you, but the only thing I've ever heard about Job's wife is that she tells Job to curse God and die. And she's gotten an awful lot of bad press over those few words she was given to speak. But now I see that she just didn't actually say that? My question is, how do translators know that this particular passage is or is not sarcasm? I mean, what if Job's wife truly meant, "Bless God, and die"?

Along with this thought, it occurred to me for the first time that everything Job lost, his wife lost, too. And yet we never hear about it this way. Was it not her children who were killed? Was it not her home that was lost? Was it not also her fortune that disappeared? And was she not having to watch her husband be tortured and waste away before her very eyes? It had to be a living hell ... But we hear nothing of her faith, we don't even hear her cry or suffer along with Job. Surely she suffered!I know these things are "outside the text." The story is not concerned with Job's wife, but with Job. Even so, I would love to hear the story told again from her perspective.

Just some thoughts on a Monday morning ...

Job 2:8-10

2:8 Job took a potsherd with which to scrape himself, and sat among the ashes.

2:9 His wife said to him, "Do you still persist in your integrity? Curse/Bless God, and die!"

2:10 But he said to her, "You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Should we receive the good at the hand of God, and not receive the bad?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

You know there was a day I thought that I would run out of quizzes, (which may be a relief to some lol), but now I wonder if the number of them is inexhaustible! Anyways ... This one is interesting to me as its done from a more secular viewpoint with anime graphics and all ...

Which Fruit of the Spirit Do You Bear?

Click here: Quiz - Which Fruit of the Spirit Do You Bear??? - spiritual personality - Quizilla Quizzes

My result:

You have Patience!!! Like Peace, you are cool and calm and dont like to hurry. Though you know there is work to do, you get it done at your own pace. You know that moving too fast causes problems so when you feel stressed you take a break to collect yourself. Waiting can be hard but, most often, is worth it.

Every Seventh Letter - TORAH

An interesting thing I found in a blog ...
Just because the Bible was originally written in Hebrew/Greek, that does not mean God cannot do wonderful things in His Word in Any language.

FOR INSTANCE. take the book Genesis.. in the original Hebrew language.

Genesis 1:1

what is the 7th letter ?? it is a " T "
what is the 14th letter? it is a " O "
...and the 21st letter ? it is a " R "
....and the 28th letter ? it is a " A "
....and the 32nd letter ? it is a " H "

all I did was look at every 7th letter !

Now.. Exodus 1:1

what is the 7th letter ?? it is a " T "
what is the 14th letter? it is a " O "
...and the 21st letter ? it is a " R "
....and the 28th letter ? it is a " A "
....and the 32nd letter ? it is a " H "

Now .. Leviticus.

Every 7th letter ..

...........???? NOTHING !!!!!! "gibberish" (forgive me Lord ) !!

NUMBERS 1:1

what is the 7th letter ?? it is a " H "
what is the 14th letter? it is a " A "
...and the 21st letter ? it is a " R "
....and the 28th letter ? it is a " O "
....and the 32nd letter ? it is a " T "

DUET: 1:1

what is the 7th letter ?? it is a " H "
what is the 14th letter? it is a " A "
...and the 21st letter ? it is a " R "
....and the 28th letter ? it is a " O "
....and the 32nd letter ? it is a " T "

Look !!!! The first two books are pointing to Leviticus
The last two books of the torah are pointing to Leviticus also

LEVITICUS IS THE TORAH (the law) !!!!

Its amazing the off the wall "gems" one can find in the Bible!

ancient Irish prayer (Or is it a curse?)

Something I came across ...

May the people love us; And if they don't love us, May the Lord turn their hearts; And if their hearts won't be turned, May the Lord turn their ankles, So that we can know them by their limping. Oh ... If only we can tell of those whose hearts aren't turned by their limping!

Have a blessed evening everyone! Tim

Tale of Two Pots

TWO POTS

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of apole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house. "Each of us has our own unique flaw.

Evening's Benediction

The sunset was a sight to behold,

not only in the western sky;

It spilled its beauty all around

so it couldn't miss our eye.

A crater of deepest purple,

with an icing of aqua-marine;

Profound pink rose to fiery-orange

overflowing the entire scene.

A combustion of colour,

ignited by nature,

was her sunset for today

-A scene that would linger in minds and hearts

before it went on its way.

Joan Adams Burchell

Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

Life According to Wile E. Coyote

When I was a child, I used to sit for hours and watch Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show. In fact I have a couple DVD's now for the 'kids'! lol Of course I was always curious about why Wile E. Coyote kept trying to catch the Road Runner when he always failed. And of course I always wanted him to get that annoying bird! And I think I may have an answer of why he kept at it ... We live in a plan "B" world!

Plan "A" is what we want; what WE plan; our goals; our desires. Plan "A" is all about us, like the coyote was all about getting the Road Runner. We stress and obsess over our plans, giving not much regard for plan "B" possibilities. Plan "B" is what God's reality is for our lives. True, plan "B" can be painful and it can be unpleasant, but we were never guaranteed an easy ride through this life. Jesus tells us that we WILL have troubles, but don't worry ... He has given us exactly what we need to overcome the trials and troubles.

Now that I'm older I know that sometimes Plan "B" requires that we learn a lesson, sometimes it's just a matter of getting our eyes off of our wants. I also find the greatest joys I have had include (David Crowder Quote) "A Beautiful Collision". That's the point in which God's will for my life and my hearts truest desire collide. God's plan for my life has turned out WAY better than the measly plans I thought up! We worry and stress too much! But we are commanded in Scripture to turn all our anxieties over to God and let Him worry for us (1 Peter 5:6-7). I'm all in favor of "letting go and let God" because I manage to botch things up every time without even trying!

So the moral of this story? Want less stress? Turn it over to God and TURN LOOSE, you're going to need both hands for this adventure ride! Have a great day everyone! Tim

A Beautiful Collision/David Crowder

The breaking makes a sound I never knew

Could be so beautiful and loud

Fury filled and we collide

So courageous until now, fumbling and scared

So afraid You'll find me out

Alone here with my doubt

Here it comes, a beautiful collision

Is happening now

There seems no end to where You begin and

There I am now

You and I collide

Something circling inside

Spaciously you fly, infinite and wide

Like the moon and sky, collide

Here it comes now
